Serve

SHARE YOUR GIFTS

East End is a community built by people who share their time, talents, and care with one another. From helping worship run smoothly to welcoming people through our doors, volunteers make so much of our church life possible.

Ways to Serve

There are many ways to help create a meaningful Sunday morning for our church community. From up front in the choir or as a liturgist to behind-the-scenes support, there's a place for everyone to be involved!

Freshly Baked Bread

Altar Guild

This role prepares elements for communion, sets the altar table, cleans and puts items away in the sacristy.

Children's Worship Supply Team

This team replenishes children's worship supplies in our sanctuary to support children's faith formation as they grow as worshippers.

Sheet Music Close-Up

Choir

This group helps lead worship by singing in the choir.

Microphone On Stage

Liturgists

Our liturgists play a vital role in worship by acting as a bridge between the pastor and the congregation. By leading prayers, calls to worship, and scripture readings from the front of the church, they visibly model the United Methodist tradition of lay leadership and the "priesthood of all."

Filling Checklist Form

Membership Team

This team counts the number in attendance on the main floor of Sanctuary and gets the attendance count from the Balcony Usher at the end of the service. They also collect attendance sheets after service and place them in the office in-box, note any pad/pen supply needs, and replace pads in pews for the following Sunday. This team also informs the office of upcoming supply needs and enters data into Breeze at the beginning of the week.

Nursery

CAREGIVER

Our nursery caregivers care for and provide a safe and nurturing environment for children ages 8 weeks to 3 years old. These volunteers serve alongside our Staff Caregivers and abide by all Safe Sanctuary policies as they serve, ensuring children are cared for physically and spiritually.

COORDINATOR

This role oversees the Sunday morning Nursery Team by providing support, guidance, and ensuring safe practices are being followed. This leader ensures the Nursery area is secure, safe check-out policies are followed, welcomes and orients new families, and provides a warm greeting to all families and their children.

Friendly Wave Exchange

Parking Team

This team sets out directional signage/cones for handicap parking, helps direct people needing parking and pedestrians at Russell & 6th. This team may also direct & welcome cars/people at entrances to off-site parking lots when they are needed.

Audio Mixer Panel

Tech Team

This team provides Sound Tech and Video Tech services during Sunday Worship. They also maintain the related equipment, ensure batteries and equipment are fully charged, and inform the church office when batteries or other supplies are needed.

Ushers

OUTSIDE SANCTUARY USHERS

Weather permitting, these Ushers stand outside and greet folks as they approach one of the three church building entrances. Two of these three Ushers remain outside of the Sanctuary throughout worship to provide a welcome to late arrivals and provide safety awareness for the campus.

INSIDE SANCTUARY USHERS

These Ushers stand inside or beside the three Sanctuary entrance doors. They welcome people in, hand them a bulletin, direct them to childcare options, first-time visitor info, restrooms, etc., as needed, help late arrivals find seating, and help collect the offering during service. They are also trained in helping leadership with basic safety protocols related to weather or medical events.

BALCONY USHERS

We encourage our older youth, grades 10-12, to consider volunteering for these roles. These Ushers must be able to access the Sanctuary balcony via a spiral staircase. They pass the offering plates and prayer request microphone in the balcony. They bring the offering and attendance sheets down from the balcony to the Finance Team after worship. They are also trained to help leadership with basic safety protocols related to weather or medical events.

LEAD USHER

This is the point person for Ushers each Sunday. They make sure everyone arrives and has what they need. They provide central communications and organization between Ushers, Staff, and other Volunteer Leadership. This is an assigned volunteer role, typically held by experienced East End Ushers and/or Trustees. If you are interested in helping out in this role, please let Jen Austin know via email at jen@eastendumc.org.

Welcoming Team

This team is responsible for recognizing and interacting with first-time visitors. These volunteers are stationed inside the sanctuary at the visitor info and name tag table located on the flat platform behind the pews. They set up and remove chairs on and around the welcome platform area as needed for extra seating in the Sanctuary. During the passing of the peace, they watch for and connect with anyone not chatted with previously and/or introduce them to others. They also collect info on who wants a permanent name tag and prepare the name tag.
